Although really hot at the beginning of the month, by the end of March it has started to feel like Autumn as the temperatures drop and all the bulb lines start becoming available. Tulips, iris. freesia and hyacinths are now available, although they are mainly coming in from Tasmania and New Zealand.
After the high temperatures in Summer, roses are recovering and the head size of the local roses is coming back. After such bad weather in February, the roses have started to look beautiful again. The second flush of red roses is now in full swing after the Valentine's day harvest.
David Austin roses have been beautiful this month and have used some lovely roses in weddings lately.
Lisianthus is slowing down now. The colour range has been lovely this season with lots of beautiful dark, light and bicolour purples, light and mid pinks plus the whites and creams.
Dahlias continue to be lovely. There is a good range of pinks, burgundies, yellows, oranges and whites. From the same farm we are getting lovely gloriosa lily and asters.
Local callas are finished but there are a few imports in a limited colour range. White arums are out of season. Hydrangeas are now scarce, with the colour of the hydrangea darkening with Autumnal tonings. Have managed to get some (rather pricey) white hydrangea for weddings.
Snaps are still available. The hybrid delphinium has been lovely - mainly whites and purples. Had trouble finding blue butterfly in the second half of the month as the crop finishes.
Stock is now finished from Sydney, but still getting some from Melbourne. Birds of paradise are available. Carnations, including green trick, have been available. We have had pivot berry and a nice colour range of hypericum berries.
Orchids, lilies and gerberas are readily available.
Proteas have been available including some kings but only short stem. Banksias (2-3 types) and leucadendron are available. Other proteas are a little thin on the ground, but have managed to get repens. Banksias - Menziesii, Baxter, Candle - have been available. There has been no wax flower, no blushing bride and no flannel flower. Managed to get strawflowers, although they are becoming more scarce. Grevillea has been available.x
