The school holidays are well on the way and Canberra has plenty of free places to visit for the whole family. Here are our top 5.
1. WINTER IN THE CITY
This week from July 6th-21st head to the city for a number of winter themed events. From ice skating to hot mulled wine to fire performances there is something to please everyone in the family. Head to https://winter.inthecity.com.au/ for more information.
2. WALK THROUGH TIME WITH MEGAFAUNA
Also on in July is the National Botanical Gardens much-anticipated MEGAfauna in July where you have the chance to meet the magnificent MEGAfauna that roamed Australia more than 20,000 years ago. Discover ‘living plant fossils’ and investigate the landscapes of Australia’s past.
3. NATIONAL MUSEUM OF AUSTRALIA
The National Museum has always been a favourite among Canberrans with an easy to get to location and plenty of picnic spots around the lake just outside the museum for the kids to enjoy. Their collection is linked to key moments, people and places in Australian history and culture. Entry is free though costs apply for some events and special exhibitions.
4. THE NATIONAL ZOO & AQUARIUM
Always a favourite for my kids why not head to the National Zoo & Aquarium and take a picnic along. If you go early in the morning you might get to see the lions let out from their night enclosures for breakfast which has always been one of our favourite things to see at the zoo.
5. NATIONAL ARBORETUM
With over over 20 kilometres of multi-purpose tracks that wind through the mosaic of living forests and stunning views of Canberra the the National Arboretum is sure to please. The gardens boast over 44,000 rare and endangered trees across the 250-hectare site, enjoy a picnic at one of the many beautiful lookout points and enjoy an afternoon of sunshine with the family.
You could always gift a mum some flowers these school holidays with our same day Canberra delivery an easy option.
